I’M NOT EATING THEM
Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire, But What About Those Other Holiday Food Products – Bah Humbug!
Call me traditional or call me crazy but when I think of food for the holiday season my mind goes to the old favorites. Doesn’t everybody look forward to the candy canes, cranberries, gingerbread, egg nog, mince meat, shortbread and the turkey with all the “trimmins”? Well, apparently not because if you head to the grocery stores over the next few weeks you’ll see some pretty strange concoctions that may or may not tempt your palate…but more about that later.
However, today things are changing and maybe not for the best. I took a quick look around and found some pretty unusual holiday products. I don’t think anyone can get too upset about “Winter Oreos” which come with red cream filling and Ritz’s “snowflake crackers” sound kind of creative. No problem, I guess, with Kellogg’s holiday Rice Krispies. Of course, the Italian fruit cake, Panettone, is almost mainstream now, for everybody.
Perhaps it’s not great for the waistline but who can resist egg nog? This mixture of eggs, sugar, milk/cream is often accompanied by some type of liquor and was the creation of the English upper crust. Back then, there was no refrigeration, so a good way of keeping the drink fresh was to mix it with sherry or brandy. It seems that we Americans made it the “original”, popular Christmas libation, a couple of hundred years ago, when we started mixing it with rum, which was plentiful and relatively affordable. Of course, in the south, it still tastes very good with Kentucky bourbon.
All the dishes we have grown to love will be making a return visit through the holidays. Hanukkah is celebrated by foods cooked in oil such as potato latkes (pancakes) and sufganyot, which are irresistible, jelly doughnuts. For many, Christmas is as American as pumpkin pie. It will be wonderful to chomp on chestnuts and sneak a few
Christmas cookies and peppermint patties.
The holiday season is bringing with it some wildly interesting new festive food choices but Paul C. Davis won’t be first in line to sample them.
What next? Well, McReynolds Farms will deliver a suckling pig right to your door. Shaw’s in New England is encouraging their customers to collect turkey points and over in the UK you can find Pedigree Limited Edition Turkey Schmackos which are described as a delicious and nutritious, meaty Christmas treat for your canine…..making it official that holiday eating is going to the dogs in no uncertain terms.
Turkey wasn’t always the number one choice for the Christmas feast. Until the 17th century one would celebrate with mutton, pork, peacocks or, sadly, even swans. King James 1 straightened things out by trotting out the turkeys, which he found easier to digest than the other options. Back then, the less fortunate found a turkey substitute in the Christmas goose. Today, ham seems to be gaining in popularity and is the number one choice for many.
Bring on the figgy pudding. OK, Christmas or plum pudding. Plum pudding is still as popular as ever but in the old days it was very different . It used to consist of meat broth with dried fruit along with wine and lots of spices. Later the meat content was given the heave ho, ho, ho and the pudding became an annual Christmas standby.
Promotional Products Brings Many Advertising Benefits
People went wild and filled out surveys by the thousands for the shirts! Cross-promotional branding is an amazing way to create logo products that can be worn and appreciated for years, especially because these items can’t be purchased in stores. You can use the popularity of another brand to boost your own popularity, in the same way a testimonial or referral would, and consumers are more willing to trust you with their business.
At this year’s Promotional Products Association tradeshow, more than 95 percent of business professionals surveyed reported using custom promotional products at their tradeshows and events. Roughly 72 percent of respondents state that promo items are either “extremely effective” or “effective” in accomplishing their goals.
There are many reasons to use imprinted merchandise and promotional product advertising, including: to increase name recognition, to increase booth traffic flow, to generate goodwill, to attract new customers and to generate interest in products.
For a multi-million-dollar industry, the sad fact is that people generally don’t really like advertising. Most consumers are fast-forwarding through commercials with TiVo if they can, trying not to read the billboards on the way to work and deleting all the spam emails in their inbox.
Promotional Products Brings Many Advertising Benefits
Promotional Products Association International said that they found businesses that had a corporate gift program were twice as likely to be contacted by customers, as compared to those who did not give gifts. So, the real question is not whether you’ll use promo products, but rather which promotional merchandise you’ll choose!
People like information when they’re ready for it. They like information that they can use. They like a brand image that they can adopt, that somehow makes them a better person by being associated with it. That is why advertising with promotional products is one of the most effective ways to market your business!
The promo products helped to create at-home reminders, enhanced impressions of the brand/product and contributed to a consumer’s intent to buy. Respondents to the survey stated that a custom promotional product was their second favorite source of information, after television.
The Incentive Performance Central completed a 2006 study that found custom promotional products could be used as a stand-alone advertising medium, coming second in “information value” only to television advertising. They continued by stating that imprinted merchandise was a very effective supplementary advertising device, to reinforce positive brand image, alongside tv and print mediums.

Before You Buy Hoodia Products
There are some hoodia products which contain other natural appetite suppressants and these might work better for some people. Most of them contain natural stimulants, like green tea, cocoa or caffeine. Check the labels before you buy hoodia. Look at the ingredients. If you are sensitive to stimulants, you may experience unwanted side effects from these products, including increased heart rate, shaky hands, dry mouth, etc.
There are many companies selling genuine products. Choosing among them may be a matter of trial and error. Customers report that some hoodia products work better than others and some say that certain ones did not work at all for them. There is no standard dosage for hoodia products, but dieters seem to be more successful when they buy hoodia with higher, rather than lower dosages. For example, Hoodia XR 1000mg and Desert Burn 750mg contain more hoodia per capsule than most hoodia products and they receive high ratings at websites devoted to hoodia reviews. These are both 100% hoodia gordonii.
Many people start a diet and exercise program without talking to their doctor first, no matter how many warnings they read, but it is still the best advice that anyone can give. Consult your doctor before you buy hoodia products. Hoodia gordonii is believed to be safe and has no known side effects, but one should be in reasonably good health before using it or any other appetite suppressant.
Once the doctor gives the green light, look for hoodia products that display CITES permits and/or analytical reports. There have been reports that some of the products on the market are not genuine hoodia gordonii. To avoid these products, buy hoodia that displays their certifications on their websites. One company required that the customer make a purchase before providing this information, might be wise to avoid that hoodia product.

Both music and art will interest a Taurus child so you should encourage listening to melodious music, drawing and colouring. Once a Taurus has learnt something it will not be forgotten. It is important to encourage a Taurus child to express themselves through words, music or art because there will be a tendency to hide true feelings.
When raising a Taurus it is best not to try to force your child to do something. The danger is that your child will turn stubborn and Taureans can hold their ground for a long time. It is best to avoid harsh commands, instead loving hugs will melt any resistance.

Archiving Helps Businesses ‘Greenify’ Data Storage
Sponsored by information technology analysts and consultants, GreenDataStorage.com lists “…archiving, on-line compression & single instance storage (de-duplication)” archiving as primary methods for data footprint reduction. These methods help businesses reduce their power consumption and IT resources without sacrificing functionality. In fact, every green technology mentioned below actually increases functionality and reduces the cost of information lifecycle management.
Archiving Helps Businesses ‘Greenify’ Data Storage
According to GreenDataStorage.com, tiered storage or hierarchical storage management involves “aligning applicable storage and media to data and application requirements”. In other words, tiered storage or hierarchical storage management is the process of placing less frequently used data on less performance-intensive storage devices, resulting in a ‘tiered’ or ‘hierarchical’ storage scheme.
Data Compression
Hierarchical storage management reduces overall energy usage by storing data more efficiently. Another added benefit of tiered storage is cost reduction-but even if we could all afford to store everything on more expensive and power-intensive devices, that doesn’t mean we should.
If you’re happy with your organization’s current electronic data management policy that involves storing terabytes or petabytes of data, causing your servers to perform at impressive snail-like speeds and waste time and power, more power to you-literally. For everyone else, consider how archiving your electronic data helps not only your company, but the whole world, by reducing your company’s data footprints.
Single instance storage technology locates multiple instances of the same file and stores only one copy, thereby deduplicating archive reserves. Imagine how many times one email is sent to multiple employees or how many times the same attachment can be forwarded around. Without deduplication, every copy of an email or attachment sent to multiple employees or sent multiple times (or both!) would be stored to the archive, which wastes space in the archive and wastes time during e-discovery searches.
Like many green technologies, archiving is an eco-friendly technology that also saves plenty of the other kind of green. The goal of storage management archiving software is more efficient use of existing corporate resources, which leads to a reduction in a company’s data footprints. The effects of reducing your data footprints include increasing productivity, lowering power usage and cooling requirements, and utilizing fewer resources, both human and financial.
So if your IT department is ready to go green, consider a process like archiving that also improves internal efficiency and reduces operational costs, which makes CFO’s (and the Earth) very happy.
According to GreenDataStorage.com, data compression’s ultimate goal is “to reduce the size of data to create a corresponding reduction in network bandwidth or storage capacity.” Fortunately, many archiving products include compression as one of their storage reduction features, reducing data by anywhere from 50% to 80%. Data compression can be used for all tiers of storage. When combined with deduplication technology, the data storage sizes can be reduced to a quarter of their original size.
When reviewing archiving products, be sure to ask if the product supports single instance storage of attachments as well as emails. Why is this a critical point? Most businesses follow the “80/20 rule”: 80% of storage space is used by large attachments, which comprise only 20% of total electronic communications. Most archiving products deduplicate emails, but fewer also deduplicate attachments. Neglecting attachments during the dedupe process significantly reduces total storage volume reduction.
Archiving
Deduplication/Single Instance Storage
Tiered Storage/Hierarchical Storage Management
Archiving is the act of collecting and storing data for future use. Archiving allows companies to retain as much data as they need by capturing and offloading data from email and file servers to a storage device. Archiving data off the email and file servers removes a large workload from the servers, allowing them to function more efficiently and use less energy to perform tasks. Archiving tends to place a very low burden on CPU resources.

Green Day Revives Punk Rock Music
In 1998 Al Sobrante joined the band as their drummer. The three-piece band soon switched their band name to “Green Day” after a marijuana incident and played their first performance at Sobrante’s school in Contra Costa College, San Pablo, California.
Greenday’s first major breakthrough was when they performed on Sesame Street. Since then, they have sold over 25 million records in the U.S. alone and over 65 million albums worldwide, making them one of the most successful punk rock bands.
In 1994 “Dookie,” which was recorded in a mere three weeks, became a major commercial hit. Songs like “Basket Case,” “When I Come Around” and “Longview” all became number-one songs on different chards. The following year, Green Day was nominated for nine awards, winning Best Alternative Album.
Green Day’s third album, “Insomniac,” comprised a darker and more melodic style of songs, like “Walking Contradiction,” “Stuck With Me” and “Brain Stew/Jaded.” After winning an MTV Video Music Award, Green Day took a break from producing music and performing concerts, claiming exhaustion.
With the release of the successful “Kerplunk!” album, Green Day was a focus of major record labels, and the band ultimately left Lookout! Records. Although many fans regarded Green Day as a sell-out, the trio had no choice but to move on and produce good punk rock music.
In 1996, after their much-criticized break, Greenday recorded and released their “Nimrod” album. Major hit songs like “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life),” “Redundant” and “Hitchin’ a Ride” were products of the band’s experimental style, far from their standard pop punk rock signature.
When Larry Livermore of Lookout! Records saw Green Day perform, he offered the band a record deal. They immediately released their first EP in 1989 called “1,000 Hours” and their first LP in 1990 entitled “39/Smooth.” The band recorded two other EPs.
When Green Day came back to the music scene in 2000, they released an album called “Warning:” which reflects a more mature version of their music. This album won eight awards at the California Music Awards in 2001. In 2004 Green Day released the 2004 “American Idiot” album, which instantly became number one on different music charts.
The Future of Green Day
All throughout 2005, Green Day spent 150 dates promoting their album on a worldwide tour. The following year Green Day won awards for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” which spent an impressive 16 weeks in the number-one position on Billboard’s Chart.

Green Day Revives Punk Rock Music
The story of Green Day started when childhood friends Mike Dirnt and Billy Joe Armstrong, who were both 14 years old in 1986, decided to form a two-person band that they called “Sweet Children.”
To this day, Green Day remains a strong influence to modern punk rock bands.
During the mid-90s, Greenday revived the popularity of the punk rock scene. Their success and that of similar bands have influenced the new generation of punk rock bands like Good Charlotte and Sum41.
In early 1991 Green Day released their second album, known as “Kerplunk!” under Lookout! Records, featuring Tre Cool on drums. The second album sold over 50,000 albums in the U.S. alone and over 2 million records worldwide.
Green Day’s Early Years and the Success of “Dookie”
Green Day Shifts to Reprise Records
Green Day have won three Grammy Awards: Best Rock Album for “American Idiot,” Best Alternative Album for “Dookie” and Record of the Year for the single “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.”

Honey Pear Iced Tea
So many people think it is difficult to make good iced tea. And, so many people have difficulty making good iced tea, especially in restaurants! Not so much in the Deep South, though, as in the rest of the country. But actually, it’s not difficult at all. Basically, if you know how to boil water, you can make good iced tea. Yes, it’s really that easy! And this Honey Pear iced tea is so delicious, you certainly don’t want to make it the wrong way so that it would possibly turn out to be unfit to drink!
You can use the same equipment that you use to make your hot tea, if you want. By that I mean a kettle for boiling the water, and a teapot for steeping the tea. You will also need some sort of pitcher for iced tea.
As it is getting close to summer, I can thoughtfully reflect that this is the best time of year to enjoy iced tea. And, fruit-based teas just seem to go along with summertime nicely. So, I have been sampling and testing as many different fruity teas as I have been able to either find locally, or order online. And, I’ve found one that is most definitely going to go on my top 10 All-Time Favorites list.
A glass pitcher is the best. Though there are many nice looking plastic pitchers out there, I always worry that they might somehow impart a rather “plastic” taste to the tea – something that glass will never do.
Once the tea has steeped to your satisfaction, remove the infuser. Add just a little sugar, probably around half a cup, more or less, or enough to suit your own taste. Add one cup of cold water and stir. Let cool just a little, then pour over ice and enjoy!
Obviously, someone like this is no tea connoisseur, nor can they appreciate the many different varieties of tea that are available in a cornucopia of tantalizingly delicious flavors. And, someone like this has no idea about how exciting it is to experiment with tea to discover, among other things, which varieties are excellent iced in a tall glass as well as hot in a delicate bone china cup. Add to the tea varieties the array of flavored teas, and you could just about sample a different variety every day of the year.
I am an iced tea devotee. I have practically made a hobby out of testing just as many different teas as I can get my hands on. Testing them as iced tea, not hot tea. I can’t say that any of them have been too bad – even the varieties which are not usually served as iced tea.
It’s hard to believe, but there are actually people in this world who do not care for tea! Not hot tea, and not iced tea. They just do not like tea, period! When you ask someone who is of the non-tea persuasion why this is so, they usually answer you with a statement such as “Tea has such a bland taste! It’s not like coffee… coffee has a rich, bold taste. Tea is so… wimpy. It’s for little old ladies!”
You’ll want to boil about a quart of water to make around four cups of Honey Pear iced tea. Place five rounded teaspoons of the loose Honey Pear tea leaves in the teapot’s infuser. Once the water has come to a boil, pour it over the tea. Allow it to steep for about ten minutes. Yes, that seems like a long time, but I have found that ten minutes is necessary in order to get the right amount of honey and pear flavor.
Honey Pear Iced Tea
The taste was as sweet as you would expect with two sweet ingredients such as honey and pear, but surprisingly bold… definitely not a “wimpy” tea! This tea is wonderful iced, and holds its bold flavor even after some of the ice melts and weakens it a bit. Truly a winner in iced tea taste testing! I would imagine that if one of those anti-tea naysayers could sample a bit of this tea, they just might change their mind about tea being bland.
It’s Honey Pear tea. It’s an amazingly delicious choice that can’t help but stand out among its many rivals in the tea time tests. I tried the Honey Pear black tea, and was blown away. It was superb! An extremely high quality black tea that would have been stunning all by itself, mixed with the flavor of lovely ripe pear and golden honey.
How To Increase Metabolism – Green Tea And Its Effect On Metabolism
Green tea has demonstrated the ability to improve the metabolic rate and improve the oxidation of fats. These two important properties have helped many an individual keep their weight in check and for many to help in losing excess weight. So, green tea is an excellent way to not only improve the metabolic rate but also to perk up the way you look.
Advanced trials have now made it known that along with these properties of green tea, it is also an antioxidant. Antioxidants are a great way to keep your heart healthy and to avoid life threatening conditions like cancer or stroke.
So, green tea is a great way to go to improve metabolism, keep your weight in check and to give your body a regular dose of antioxidants to keep you healthy for a long time to come. Make it a habit to drink a cup or two of green tea starting today. After all, it pays to go the Green way.
Green tea has emerged as a healthy route to improve the metabolism and also has provided a way to bring about reduction of weight. The constituents of green tea have the ability to maintain a healthy metabolic rate providing the necessary amount of vigor and vitality day after day.
How To Increase Metabolism – Green Tea And Its Effect On Metabolism
One vital point to bear in mind before you rush off to including green tea within your daily schedule is that one ingredient of any green tea is caffeine. If you are one who is very conscious about the amount of caffeine intake daily, then green tea is not your cup of tea. But, one good thing is that the amount of caffeine is significantly lesser in comparison to the amounts found in coffee or in the energy drinks that have now swarmed the markets. There are of late some products that claim to be free of caffeine. So, if you are caffeine conscious, you can try one of these.
“Organic green tea” is one such ingredient to look out for. If a brand is organic it will be mentioned so on the packing as many people prefer this ingredient while buying green tea.
For this reason, it is best to go with a brand that is renowned and time-tested. Also, it is best to check the constituents before purchasing it. You can even have a look at where the tea is coming from to give an idea about whether the ingredients are totally natural. The ingredients have to be looked at because there are many brands available that claim to be green tea but are actually not.
The ‘Green Baby Trend’ – Creating an Eco-Friendly Nursery
One way to ensure your nursery is filled with eco-friendly furniture is by purchasing some modern nursery furniture from brands like ducduc, Ouef & Stokke. Many companies take pride in the fact that their products are certified organic or that they only use sustainably harvested wood. Do some research and don’t be afraid to spend a little more-after all, shouldn’t this be about the health of your baby? Here are some helpful tips to consider!
- Cribs: Make sure you choose a crib made of solid, sustainable wood, treated with non-toxic paint, finishes, or stains.
- Crib Mattresses: It’s recommended by experts that you pick a natural mattress made of wool, organic cotton or 100% natural latex. Natural mattresses tend to be more expensive, so if you do select a conventional mattress, purchase an organic mattress protector to help protect the baby. Also, air the mattress out for a couple of months before placing it on the crib.
- Crib Bedding: When choosing your baby’s sheets, bumpers and other bedding, seek products that use natural fabrics-organic cotton for instance. Look to see if the product is OTA approved (Organic Trade Association).
- Changing Tables & Other Furniture: The same criteria used in selecting the right crib should be applied when searching for a changing table. Choose a table made of natural solid, sustainable wood.
- Toys: Since toys will inevitably end up in your baby’s mouth, choose toys made with natural fibers, or wood toys created with non toxic paints. If you want to go plastic, look for toys made without PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
The ‘Green Baby Trend’ – Creating an Eco-Friendly Nursery
Other things to consider when creating your “green” nursery-choose paints with low VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) and invest in an air purifier for baby’s room. Hardwood floors treated with a non toxic sealer is the best option for a nursery; however area rugs made of natural fibers with no synthetic dyes are acceptable.
If you have a new baby on the way, now is the time to start thinking about designing a “green” nursery. Simply put, a “green” nursery is completely devoid of harmful chemicals of any kind-including chemicals found in composite woods, plastics, paints, stains, etc.
